Damned Lies and Statistics: Untangling Numbers From the Media, Politicians and Activists (Joel Best)
One of the best books on critical thinking about statistical reasoning and the use of statistics in the popular media.
Best shows how statistics are manipulated, mismanaged, misrepresented and massaged by officials and powerful groups to promote their agendas.
The book is nontechnical, I don't think there's an equation in it. It's also entertaining and eye-opening. A must for anyone interested in media manipulation of numbers for persuasive effect.
