How to Build a Compelling
MORAL ARGUMENT

One of the most important domains for critical thinking is moral reasoning. In this course I develop principles for identifying good and bad moral arguments — arguments for conclusions that make a moral value judgment of some kind.

Some people believe that moral judgments express nothing more than the subjective emotional responses of individuals. Or at best, conventional social values that can’t be judged as true or false, right or wrong.

In this course I’m going to show you why, even if there is some truth to these views, that doesn’t prevent us from applying standard methods of argument analysis to moral arguments.

In this course you’ll learn how to build moral arguments that are persuasive and compelling, and how to develop a richer and more systematic understanding of your own moral beliefs and values.

This is a text-based course. Lectures are updated on a weekly basis.
